Petition for pardon from fines, 1802.

Petition addressed to the governor of Massachusetts. After Searle's conviction for forgery, he was sentenced to the pillory and three months in prison, and ordered to pay the costs of his prosecution. Searle maintained that poverty prevented him from paying these costs and that without a pardon he was subject to life in prison.
